THAILAND MASTERS FCI TEAM:
FCI Final 400 KM – A Truly Challenging Race
The FCI Final 400 KM is a demanding test of true racing ability.
Pigeons start the race under North-Eastern winds, and from approximately 260 KM to 130 KM, they must fly in strong side wind / crosswind conditions.
How pigeons handle a total side wind:
• Constant line correction
Pigeons cannot fly straight. They must angle their bodies into the wind to “cut” the airflow and continuously correct their flight line to stay on course.
• Higher energy consumption
Crosswinds increase physical demand. Birds must fight lateral drift while maintaining forward speed, which significantly increases fatigue.
• Navigation skill becomes critical
Strong side winds quickly separate top-class pigeons from the rest. Birds with superior orientation, balance, and steering stability hold their line
• Speed naturally drops
Even under clear skies, pure side winds usually reduce average speed compared to tailwind races. Efficiency, not raw power, becomes the key factor.
This race favors intelligent, stable, and well-conditioned pigeons—true champions under pressure.
