Regulation Algarve Great Derby 2023
1 – Entry is open to all pigeons, national and international, and all must have an approved official ring from the Federation/Association of the Year of the Event, and their owners must be members of the Organizing Club.
2 – In order to guarantee the health of the pigeons, with quarantine, vaccination, and creation of immunity groups, the reception of the pigeons will be from March 1st to June 15th, the organization reserving the right to create immunity groups depending on the entry dates.
3 – Each team will consist of 6 pigeons, pigeons nº 1, nº 2, and nº 3 (ACTIVE) competing for all competitions and prizes in dispute, and pigeons nº 4, nº 5 and nº 6, (RESERVE). The price to be paid per team is €600 (3 activated pigeons).
3.1 – When registration forms are not received, duly completed and with information on the order of the pigeons, the AGD organization will register the pigeons in random order. Changes to pigeon registrations can only be made up to 5 days before the start of official races.
3.2 – The 3 RESERVE pigeons of each team are the pigeons described in the registration form as R1, R2, R3, and are RESERVE of the 3 ACTIVE, and become ACTIVE in order of the registration form, first the number R1, then the number R2 and then R3, whenever any of the 3 ACTIVE pigeons of a team goes astray, or if they are ACTIVATED by the owners or another person until a date to be stipulated by the organization.
3.3 – RESERVA pigeons participate with the right to prizes in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd official races of each AGD edition
3.4 – In the semifinal and final, only ACTIVATED pigeons are entitled to prizes in the event that a NON-ACTIVATED pigeon is classified in a position to which a prize is awarded, this value will revert to the organization.
3.5 – The owners of the pigeons can activate the RESERVE pigeons for the semifinal until a date to be stipulated by the organization, upon payment of €200 per pigeon, an amount subject to VAT at the legal rate in force (23%).
3.6 – The RESERVE pigeons that are not activated by the owners, until the date stipulated by the organization for the purpose, participate in the semi-final, but without the right to prizes, this prize reverting to the organization, if they classify in a winning place, and after return from the semi-final, they can be activated for the final by the owners until a date to be stipulated.
3.7 – Pigeons not activated by the owners for the final until the date to be stipulated can be activated by third parties up to 1 day before the final, to participate in the final, who are entitled to the pigeon, being entitled to the prizes won from this date, however the % on auction sale (50% after deducting auctioneer and photo costs) will always be attributed to the original owner. The price of each registration/activation per RESERVE pigeon will be 200 euros VAT included at the current rate (23%). For activations contact the agent in the country or send an email to geral@algarvegreatderby.com. Reservation requests will be ordered in order of arrival of the request to the email, sending an email is mandatory, and it may not be enough for the activation of the pigeons just the bank statement, this by itself may not guarantee the activation of the pigeons,
3.8 – All Reserve Athletes will always participate in the Semi-Final and Final Race but they must be activated to be entitled to the values to be attributed in the Semi-final and Final Race, otherwise the corresponding values will revert to the organization.
3.9 – All pigeons that are not fit will not be basketed for the final, these pigeons will become the property of the organization, which will offer them to clubs, or other social organizations, to auction and thus obtain revenue.
3.10 – Pigeons registered in a team cannot change teams even if the owner is the same from the beginning of the ace pigeon championship.
3.11 – There will be an activation period exclusive to the owner and the last 72 hours of the activation period will be extended to third parties if the pigeons are not yet activated.
3.12 – All participants must be competing/participating members of the AGD – Algarve Great derby (organizing club).
3.13 – The initial amount to be paid (3 active pigeons), 600€, 50% is the membership fee (VAT free) which is fixed at 25€ per month, and 50% is registration in the race (VAT included at the 23% rate).
3.14 – Bank charges for transfers to AGD-Algarve Great Derby (Organizing Club) are the responsibility of the person making the transfer. For transfers to countries outside the European Union, the amount charged by banks in Portugal (Europe) is added to the registration fee for each bank transfer made.
3.15 – Enrollment in the race only becomes effective and definitive after all the amounts due have been paid, and if these payments are not made, the amounts that may eventually be earned and paid by the AGD, whether prizes or purchase amounts or sale of the pigeons revert to the Organization, which will then deliver to charities.
3.16 – Each participating member may enroll the teams they wish and will have to pay, the amount equivalent to a member fee and the value of an enrollment, for each team that enrolls.
3.17 – When registering 10 teams, the participant will be entitled to 1 free team (3 activated pigeons)
3.18 – For every 10 activated reserve pigeons, the participant is entitled to one free.
3.19 – If any pigeon gets lost in the adduction, it can be replaced until the 15th of June, without extra registration costs. For transport prices, contact the agent in your country or the Organization.
3.20 – If a non-activated pigeon of a participating partner wins a value in dispute and is not yet activated, this value reverts to the organization
4 – The pigeons must be vaccinated against PMV, in the 30 days prior to shipment, and be between 45/60 days old. They will be sent to Pombal AGD – Algarve Great Derby, to Faro Airport, or to representatives in the various countries (see agents).
5- Space in the loft is limited to a maximum of 6000 pigeons, so a place in the loft will be secured based on the principle of first entrants.
5.1 – To register, simply send an email to geral@algarvegreatderby.com. With your registration/membership form, or to agents in different countries.
5.2 – All participants from the previous year have a guaranteed place in the loft for the following year, having to make their reservation until December 31st of the year prior to the year of the event. After this date, places to participate are not guaranteed.
6- After arriving at the loft, the pigeons are in the care of the organization AGD-Algarve Great Derby, remaining the property of the Participating member. Pigeons arriving from the final race will be obligatorily auctioned, or sold to national or international websites by the owner, with the owner entitled to 50% of the sale value after withdrawing the costs with auction houses and photos.
7- If any pigeon is not sold, or auctioned, the first time, the Partner – Participant loses the right to % of the sale value.
8 – The amounts to be paid, as stipulated in the Prizes document, will be paid from the 15th day following the completion of the final test, with the participating member sending the Iban of the bank account, and the document to the email geral@algarvegreatderby.com proof of your tax address.
9 – The amounts referring to the % of the sale of the pigeons at auction will be paid by the auctioneers to the AGD – Algarve Great Derby (Organizing Club) after finishing all the auctions, and the pigeons being paid by the buyers, the AGD Organization will send the owners the amount corresponding to your % on sale. If any pigeon is sold and not paid by the buyer, it goes to auction a second time. The percentage for the owner is 50% of the sale price after subtracting the costs with auction houses and photos. If a pigeon is not paid twice, it will not go to auction again.
10 – All pigeons must be accompanied by an ownership card/title (mandatory) and pedigree in a closed envelope that will only be opened by the organization after the final release. Pigeons that are not accompanied by a complete pedigree (father, mother and grandparents), the owner will not be entitled to a percentage of the sale value. The organization will only receive pedigrees up to 7 days after the Final Test.
11 – Since it has become mandatory for the Portuguese Pigeon Federation, all pigeons have a card/property title to participate in the Final Test race, all pigeons that do not have it will have to request duplicate copies from the Federation, and the cost will be from the Participant’s responsibility (2€ each), since no originals were sent. The organization agrees to receive cards/tickets up to 8 days after the final.
12 – All pigeons that enter the loft will be assigned an electronic chip.
13- The basketing for the final test will be organized by the organization, with the supervision and participation of independent entities, where all the pigeons will be stamped on a wing with ink. A list of all the pigeons participating in the final race will then be made available to those present, the press and the website of the event and Benzing. The pigeons will be accompanied to the release location by independent entities that will supervise the release, which will be carried out with the support of a national meteorologist.
14- All announced values of prizes are based on the entry of a number of teams, of 6 pigeons each (paid) and the organization reserves the right to change the values of the prizes in percentage, for more or for less, as more or less teams entered.
15- In the loft the National rules of non-use of drugs will be followed and the pigeons will be analyzed regularly by the official Veterinarian.
16- All training and events to be disputed and scheduled, may be changed for meteorological reasons, or other reasons unrelated to the organization. The decision of the organization is sovereign.
17- Any eventuality that gives rise to conflict, not covered by this regulation, will be resolved by the organization, governed by the National laws of Portugal, and this decision will be final. The official regulations will be in Portuguese and will be posted on the event’s website, as any translation into another language could lead to misunderstandings.
18 – The system for verifying the arrival of pigeons in training and competitions is an authorized electronic system.
19 – The pigeons will be housed in a loft built for this purpose and so that everyone has the same conditions; lofts will only have perches and there will be no separation of sexes.
20 – Due to the date of the event, the “Daylight” system will be used because of the moulting of the pigeons.
21 – PIGEON ACE – REGULATION
21.1 – Compete for the ACE pigeon, all the pigeons that entered the loft.
21. 2 – To win the Ace Pigeon, the pigeon must rank in all 5 Ace Pigeon competitions that take place.
21.3 – If it is not possible to carry out a competition counting for the Ace Pigeon, to find the winner, the competitions carried out count.
21.4 – In case of a tie after the conclusion of the Ace Pigeon competitions, the pigeon with the best classification in the final race will be the winner of the ACE PIGEON.
21.5 – The ace pigeon wins the pigeon with the best combined average of the 5 races carried out
22- Verification Time Criterion:
22.1 – In the first 4 races, the classification for the ACE PIGEON ends after closing the race in the BENZING system, at least 8 hours after the arrival of the first pigeon.
22. 2- In the final race, the classification of the ACE PIGEON ends after the race is closed in the BENZING system, at least 8 hours after the arrival of the first pigeon and until the end of the second day of verification.
23 – Unforeseen events
23.1 – In case of any anomaly, such as a pandemic, impositions by superior entities, meteorological catastrophe, act of sabotage, or others, outside the organization, that it is not possible to carry out all the official races, with the right to prizes, after If the pigeons have entered the loft and are paid, the organization will sell the pigeons at auction, with 50% after subtracting the expenses with the auction houses and photos for the owner of the pigeon, and this year’s participants will be entitled to enter the next edition free of charge. , in the same number of teams and pigeons that participated that year. In the event that any of the aforementioned unforeseen circumstances occur after some races have already taken place, these will be canceled, as well as the respective prizes won.
24- TAXES
24.1 – The values mentioned in the Regulations include VAT at the current rate, provided that applicable, and all prizes are in euros. According to the opinion of the Tax Authority and Portuguese law, all participants / members residing in Portugal who receive money from prizes, sales of pigeons or commissions, will be responsible for paying the IRS tax (25%), referring to these funds, with retention for part of the AGD (Organizing Club) of that amount, which will then send it to the Tax Authority, as determined by law. Non-residents in Portugal are exempt from paying the tax, with no retention (25%), the prize will be paid in full, provided they present a certificate of tax residence abroad, or form 21-RFI duly completed and stamped,
25 – The AGD – Algarve Great Derby (organizing club) Does not exchange with other OLRs or with owners of other OLRs. All Pigeons must be titled in the individual name of the Participating Member or in the name of a team chosen by him. No Owner of any OLR will benefit from special conditions for Participating in the Algarve Great Derby, including having to activate their Reserve pigeons if this activation is requested on the Website www.algarvegreatderby.com.
26 – There is the possibility of participation of pigeons from third countries and these pigeons are subject to a period of Quarantine to be carried out at the Quarantine Center of the Portuguese Pigeon Racing Federation, this cost being the responsibility of the Partner-Participants.

by the organization , and this decision will be sovereign.
29 – COLLABORATION Meteorological Support Provided by the FPC National and International Collaborators to be announced on the event’s website. Official Veterinarian of the Columbódromo, Drº. Ruben Jeronimo. The system for verifying the arrival of pigeons in training and competitions is an official electronic system authorized by the FPC by Marca Benzing. The Pombal is equipped with the new Speed antennas capable of registering more than 1000 pigeons per minute without missing a single registration. With this we want to give participants a guarantee of reliability in the results presented, the results can be followed in all tests in the live OLR system of the brand Benzing prepared for the OLR.
30 – The organization will send invitations to institutions in the municipality of Olhão, with the aim of obtaining their participation so that these athletes can participate in the Algarve Great Derby, the income from these pigeons after withdrawing the costs of organizing the auction will be in the its entirety for the participating entities not wanting the organization any amount. These supports will be given by way of donation. These pigeons will participate in all races until the Semi-final and the best of these pigeons classified in the ace pigeon will win the right to participate in the final race of the Algarve Great derby.
31 – The Organization may make Venture birds available to be activated by participating members or by third parties, these venture birds will cost €200, including VAT, and will participate in the races winning the amounts in dispute from the moment they are activated.
