DERBY ZAGREB SKY LEADER 1st experience
*** TRAINING 8 with GPS tracker ***
Dear sports friends, we will share this first special experience with you. On 30.07. at training no. 8th from Vrhovec, we put a GPS tracking ring from Sky leader on one of our GPS pigeons. A small blue, tough female, called Cindarella, was our first test pigeon, to see how it actually works and where they all fly…
The pigeons were released exactly at 7:45 a.m. and headed straight for Zagreb. The arrival speed was 1472 m/min, which obviously showed that most of the pigeons flew straight to the pigeon loft.
4 minutes after release our little Cindarella obviously had some kind of problems, reaching a speed of up to 4000 m/min, probably a hawk attack, that lasted for 5 min. and then it stabilized and the speed became stable. It is possible that this experience is the reason why she deviated a little from the path. But at 8:52 a.m. she was in the pigeon loft, having flown 82 km without stopping. Very interesting. And this little blue female had something else on her mind…Now if there were any other pigeons with her or not, that is unknown to us..?? Basically she made it a much longer and instead of 47,8 km ( what we can see now in the straight line) she made a circle of 80,9 km, almost double , as can be seen in the tables below.
In the beginning, she kept a very good line with the speed that the other pigeons showed, rising up to 500 m above sea level. Then not far from the loft instead of turning towards the loft, she continued towards Zagreb-Sesvete, making a circle there and returned via Dugo Selo to the loft.
I am not yet a great expert in reading this GPS program and tables, but with time we will learn everything. This is very interesting to watch and study, and we hope that our chosen GPS pigeons will last until the end… We are looking forward to further competition and following our little champions… Best regards
