4TH TRAINING
ALGARVE GREAT DERBY TEAM:
Hello everyone!
Ringo here with another update from the AGD Summer 2026 youngsters.
Today we completed Training 4, this time from a distance of 44 km. Once again, everything went smoothly, and the youngsters showed that they’re growing in confidence with every journey.
The arrivals were good and steady, with one group after another finding its way back to the loft. There was, however, one interesting difference compared to the previous trainings. As the distance increases, so do the challenges, and this time we began to see a little more separation between the groups. After the large waves had arrived, several smaller groups continued to appear over the following minutes before everyone was safely back home.
That’s exactly what you would expect as the kilometres increase. Every pigeon develops at its own pace, gaining experience with every training.
Mother Nature also decided to make today’s lesson a little tougher. The sky was a perfect blue from horizon to horizon, leaving no clouds to provide a moment of shade. Combined with a very high UV Index and temperatures around 26–27°C, it was a proper summer training in the Algarve.
Fortunately, our youngsters handled the conditions well. Good preparation, sensible management and steadily increasing distances are allowing the team to build both confidence and fitness without rushing the process.
Another training successfully completed, another valuable lesson learned, and another step closer to the races that lie ahead.
There won’t be much time to rest, though. If all goes according to plan, we’ll be back on the road this coming Monday for Training 5, where the distance will increase to 74 km. Another big step awaits us!
Until next time, keep your eyes on the sky!
