Ringo Report: Race 1 – The Competition Begins!
Today was the day we had all been training for – the start of the first race in a series of five races over 200 km, all counting toward the Ace-Pigeon competition. The competition is officially underway, and what an exciting day it was!
We were released at 8 AM, with a temperature of 18°C and a light tailwind at ground level. Up in the air, the wind felt a bit stronger. The first arrivals touched down 2 hours and 19 minutes later, with the temperature rising to 24°C and a light headwind at ground level. Three of us arrived alone, about a minute ahead of the next group, but they lingered on the landing board. Only one of them trapped in before the bigger drop, while the other two joined the larger group.
There was a moment of tension when an eagle appeared above the loft during our arrival. Although it didn’t attack, it made a few of us nervous and a bit hesitant to trap in right away. Despite this, we managed steady arrivals, with 35% of us getting home within the first 10 minutes and 70% within 15 minutes.
A few of our flock are still out there, but we’re hopeful they’ll make it back later this evening or by early tomorrow morning.
A big congratulations to the podium winners among us:
1st Place: PP 154 from Pedro Porto – Portugal
2nd Place: Talent 4401 from Dieter Siebert + Chen Yue – Germany
3rd Place: BS 87 from W. van Derpol & Billy Said – Norway
It’s wonderful to see our international spirit shining through, with pigeons from 7 different countries in the Top 10. The race is on, and we’re just getting started!
Until next time, keep your wings strong!
