Ringo’s Report: Training 3 at the Algarve Great Derby
Hello again, feathered friends and loyal followers! It’s Ringo, your dedicated pigeon reporter, with the latest update from our loft at the Algarve Great Derby. Today, we tackled our third road training, and it was quite an eventful journey.
Training 3: Over the Mountain and Beyond
Today’s training took us 24 kilometers from the loft, to the other side of the mountain behind our home. It was our longest training flight yet, and it presented new challenges for all of us.
The Release and the Journey
The day began early with the usual truck ride to the release point. The release went smoothly, and we took to the sky with confidence. However, things didn’t go as planned. It seems we might have encountered some predators along the way.
Navigating the Challenges
Many of us returned alone or in pairs, rather than in larger groups. This unexpected turn forced us to rely on our individual navigation skills. While it was a tough experience, it was also a valuable lesson in finding our way home on our own.
One of our fellow pigeons arrived injured and missing half its tail, a stark reminder of the dangers we face. The good news is that these challenges made us stronger and more resilient.
Recovery and Next Steps
Given the challenges we faced today, the trainers have decided to give us an extra day of recovery. Our next road training session will be on Saturday, covering a distance of 37 kilometers. This will be our longest flight yet, and we’re gearing up for the challenge.
So there you have it, folks—the latest from the Algarve Great Derby. Today’s training was a true test of our skills and determination, and we’ve emerged stronger for it. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue our journey. This is Ringo, signing off from the loft.
Fly high, stay safe, and keep learning from every challenge!
